Digitalization in the Jewelry Industry: ERP & 3D Configurator for Henrich & Denzel
The jewelry industry has long faced a unique challenge: artisanal precision and individual craftsmanship on one hand, and growing demands for efficiency, transparency, and digital customer experiences on the other. With HD ERP and HD Conf, we developed two closely integrated software systems for Radolfzell-based jewel manufacturer Henrich & Denzel that bridge exactly this gap.
HD ERP – Digital Process & Product Management
HD ERP is a tailor-made Enterprise Resource Planning system, built on Phoenix/Elixir with a reactive LiveView interface. It forms the operational backbone of the entire business and covers all critical workflows end-to-end:
Product Management: At the heart of the system lies the detailed management of rings and jewelry. Ring templates describe the structural composition of a model — with partial rings, profiles, and transitions. From these templates, concrete products are configured with alloys (gold, white gold, rose gold in various purities), gemstones, surface finishes, and processing options.
Calculation Logic & Pricing: A sophisticated calculation module enables automated price computation based on metal weight, alloy costs, gemstone prices, labor input, and markups. Prices are calculated in real time and can be governed by configurable pricing rules.
Order Processing & Warehouse: From order intake through workshop routing to inventory management, every step is tracked in the system. Maintenance workflows, resource planning, and the assignment of work steps to machines and employees are fully integrated.
CMS & Configuration Management: Product content, images, and descriptions are maintained through a built-in content management module and are directly linked to the configurator frontend. A GraphQL API securely delivers all relevant product data to external systems and to HD Conf.
HD Conf – Innovative 3D Ring Configurator
HD Conf is the digital storefront: a React/TypeScript application powered by Three.js as its 3D rendering engine. Customers configure rings in real time, experiencing a product interaction that goes far beyond static product photography.
Real-Time 3D Visualization: Every change — alloy, surface finish, stone setting, ring width — is instantly reflected in the 3D model. PBR materials (Physically Based Rendering) deliver a realistic representation of metal surfaces such as high polish, sand matte, or rock matte. Gemstones are accurately positioned and catch the light naturally.
Complex Configuration Logic: Rings can be composed of multiple partial rings, each with its own alloy and surface finish. Stone settings (pavé, channel, solitaire) can be defined per segment. The configurator is aware of manufacturing constraints and prevents technically impossible combinations.
Seamless ERP Integration: All configuration data is sourced directly from HD ERP. Prices are calculated and displayed live via GraphQL. A completed configuration can be saved as a customer order and fed directly into the ERP order processing workflow.
Modern UX: Zustand-based state management ensures a performant and consistent user interface. Configurations can be saved as drafts, shared, and restored at any time.
